Governor McDonnell Attends Groundbreaking for SportsQuest

Governor Bob McDonnell joined Dr. Steve Burton and Chesterfield County officials today, March 10, 2010, for groundbreaking ceremonies on the East Campus of SportsQuest located at Route 288 and Powhite Parkway.

Governor McDonnell spoke to the crowd of supporters about creating jobs and investment in both Virginia and in Chesterfield County.

Dr. Steve Burton is CEO and Founder of SportsQuest. He owns and operates Richmond Ice Zone off of Midlothian Turnpike. He also supports his short track, speed skaters which are National Champions and who have competed at the Winter Olympics.

The East Campus is 115-acres and includes a 17-field tournament complex for multiple sports, an amphitheater and a central plaza as part of its Festival Park. This campus will be the largest synthetic turf campus in the United States.

The West Campus is slated for construction in the fall. It will include a 5,000-seat arena, 2,500-seat ice multi-sports center, a velodrome for track bicycling, an aquatics center, a fitness center, office space, sports medicine center, retail and a hotel.
